Russian science and educational and industry geo-portals as elements of the spatial data infractructure

Abstract
This research gives a detailed analysis of the formation of spatial data infrastructures (SDI) developed by scientific and educational institutions, and regional management and industrial structures. As show the examples from Russian academic institutions and universities, to few of the achievements in the implementation of SDI components of different levels and functions can be attributed geo-portals providing access to spatial data sets and network services, data search by metadata and their cartographic visualization. It is shown that science has unique spatial data resources which are not widely used in practice.
